Wild at Heart

In August 2016, myself and a friend will be embarking on a volunteering trip to South Africa in order to work with the local community to target issues of poaching as well as to support the work of the local school. However, we need your help.

The goal of this particular project is to work within the South African community to target wildlife conservation and issues of poaching.

Sadly, within South Africa, poaching has reached a point of extreme crisis, resulting in Rhinos being categorised as an endangered species with approximate deaths outnumbering births. Research statistics identified by the South African Department of Environmental Affairs indicate the severity of the situation, highlighting a dramatic escalation of poaching in recent years. Shockingly, these statistics inform us that during 2014, 1,215 Rhinos were killed by poachers in South Africa, this equates to 1 every 8 hours.

This consequently indicates the need for projects such as this, to work alongside the local community to apprehend such a crisis as this.

The project not only seeks to target issues of poaching but to also involve engagement with the local community through assisting in the work of the local schools. Throughout the project, we will be encouraging the local community to provide children with a holistic education, preparing them for the outside world where it will be their responsibility to provide for their families. The project encourages individuals to learn about how other cultures live, to appropriately identify any areas of need and to therefore respond in accordance to this.

We are both excited to go on this incredible volunteering trip, and cannot wait to get our hands dirty in working to protect a struggling society and an endangered animal kingdom. It is our aim to achieve life changing benefits for those on the receiving end of the aid as well as to ourselves in learning to identify with a cause in need.

We are busy fundraising in order to make our dream possible, and so we need your help. We will be organising many events over the next few weeks and months, so if you're local, check back here for updates and come along to give us your support. Or if you wish, you can donate to our cause here: https://www.gofundme.com/southafrica29816

Thank you
